Our three-phase Ex motors, including the corresponding forced ventilation units, are now also IECEx certified.

The word “also” is important. Our Ex motors have been certified for many years and already comply with several international certification schemes, including ATEX, EAC Ex and UKEx, etc, together with other market-specific requirements.

There is no separate “IECEx version”, no different product code and no additional configuration to select. Same product. Same code. Same configuration. Now with IECEx certification in addition to the certifications already available.

And, as previously announced: No price increase.

It further strengthens an Ex range that was already designed to cover an exceptionally broad spectrum of applications, certified ALL-IN-ONE and only version for:

• Zones 1 + 2 + 21 + 22
  • Categories 2 + 3
  • Gas and dusts groups A + B + C
  • All dusts
  • Temperature class T4 (available also T5 and T6). Max surface temperature 120°C (opt. max 100°C and max 85°C)
• Usable in Ambient temperature up to 60°C, while still cold in and out
  • All duty types from S1 to S9
  • Certified also for operation with variable frequency drives
• From IEC size 56 to 355, from 90W to 315kW, 2-4-6-8 poles, multivoltage and multifrequency

In other words, from the most demanding potentially explosive environments to more conventional industrial applications, Motive aims to offer an Ex solution without forcing customers into a maze of special versions and combinations.

And there is another rather unusual feature: We can produce them in just two weeks.

Why IECEx matters

IECEx is the international certification system for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

While ATEX is the mandatory European regulatory framework, IECEx is a voluntary international certification scheme based on the relevant IEC standards and recognized in many markets around the world.

This makes IECEx particularly valuable for manufacturers and customers operating internationally: it provides a common certification framework that can facilitate access to markets where Ex equipment is required.

It is not just about the product

As we explained in our previous newletters, IECEx certification goes beyond testing the product itself.

The IECEx Scheme also requires the manufacturer's quality management system for Ex equipment to comply with ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018, supported by specific audits and ongoing surveillance by the certification body. Motive achieved this important prerequisite in June 2026.

And what about the gearboxes? The updated ATEX certification of our Ex gearboxes is currently being finalized, while their IECEx certification is also in progress. This is particularly significant because IECEx-certified mechanical gearboxes remain extremely rare in our industry.

Our objective is therefore not simply to add another certificate to a product. It is to improve a complete, internationally recognized Ex portfolio, covering the different components of a drive system.
